I first began making things when I was a little girl. Back then most of my creations involved the gluing together of random household objects which were then topped off with puffy paint and plastic jewels.
In high school, I found a slightly more refined artistic outlet in jewelry which eventually led me to join the University of Iowa's art program. Once there, I quickly realized that my desire to become a jewelry designer wasn't as strong as my desire to make more "messy" works with ink, paint and texture. It became important for me to process my thoughts and reflections visually. At the same time I was learning to be more a more reflective artist, I was also learning that I had a passion for teaching others to develop their creative-selves, which lead me into my current role as an elementary art teacher in the Quad cities. Five years ago, I decided it was time for the next challenge of my artistic life so I enrolled in graduate school at the University of Iowa where I studied at the Center for the Book to receive my graduate certification in book arts as well as my MA in art education. I found a love for artists books and the challenges that come with creating such intricate structures. As I wait for the next challenge to present itself, I'm inspired everyday by the unique qualities only artwork of an 8 year-old can ensue and every evening I'm working to become my own version of an artist, creator and collector of all things deemed interesting.
